The Secret of The Moon

Welcome back, owlnerds. For this blog post, I decided to share an old story I wrote a few years back. And since fall is just around the corner. What better way to enjoy the coming of fall is to read a gothic story. Please enjoy!

The trees trembled as the wind whistled in the shadowy night. The lights beamed the path as the car lead me until smoke captured the engine and the vehicle stopped. I stepped out of the car and lifted up the hood. I coughed and couldn’t grasp the problem. I looked around at my surroundings but the road was dark and fearsome. I walked, at least, a mile when I saw a light from the distance. I couldn’t quite see what it was but I ventured to it for the night sky made me tremble.

The door creaked as I opened the door. At the corner of the room, I saw a candlelight flicker but no one was there. Was this home abandoned? No. It couldn’t. Could it?

From out of nowhere, a man stood in front of me and it caused me to jump back and I almost tumbled to the ground. The man grabbed my hand and helped up to my feet. Just before he released his hand off my mine. I saw that his man was covered in hair. Or was it fur?

I asked the man if there were any rooms that were a vacancy and he led me to a room. He shut the door behind him and I heard a click as the floor creaked as he left me.

I lead myself to the bed which was not the best of shape with only rags to comfort me. I crashed into asleep but suddenly I heard growling. I trembled and hide but I knew that would not make the noise disappear. With bare feet, I tried to open the bedroom door but it was locked. I knocked and the door and called for help but no one seemed to hear me. I opened the curtains and tried to open them but they also were locked. I tried to look at the surrounding of the house but saw nothing. Until I came across a figure just off on a hill, a few miles away from the house. As I looked closer, the figure was sitting on its hind legs and singing to the moon. I saw the moon brighter than usual. It was a blood moon and as the figure turned around I saw the figure’s eyes. The eyes were glimmering with red as blood and the body appearance was actually like the man from the house.

My heart began to beat faster and faster. I trembled and knew he was coming to eat me. I heard the front door crash and the house began to creak louder and louder. I was motionless as I felt as though these were my last moments. My bedroom door clicked again as it unlocked, the man came in.  He smiled a smile with evil in his grin. His teeth were not human teeth but wolf teeth. Blood dripped from his fangs and he growled a silent growl. I tried to move but it felt like my feet were glued to the floor.

Under my breath, I said, “Werewolf.”

The man growled louder and believed that my whisper was quite louder than I expected it to be. Just as the werewolf leaped upon me. I cried out. I threw the sheets off me and threw the door open. I ran but fell upon someone.

“Honey.. what wrong did you have a bad dream?”

I didn’t speak but hugged the person and wept.

Houk’s Society Episode 3

I was abused. Forgotten. Abandoned. Hopeless cause. I was a mess completely. I dropped out of school, disappearing into an abandoning apartment. Being consumed by the world’s rules and regulations. The belief in a perfect body. I began drinking alcohol until I lost control. Living in an asylum to control me from self-harm, every thought was self-suicide. I believed the doctors didn’t care at all about me just that they wanted to kill me.

Hi, my name is Lynn and this is my story. Several years later after recovering, I still live in the abandoned apartment. Working as an online freelancer. I lost any trust with my friends’ parents. They would describe as an alcoholic. There is always an hour wait as they check my apartment. Every Friday, I go to a local bar and play pool with Castin and some other drunk people.

Houk’s Society Episode 2

Welcome back to Episode 2 of Houk’s Society.

I was just a girl who was stolen from my native land. A girl who was too clueless about the outside world. A girl who was hidden from the lust of men’s eyes. A girl who worshipped Him who created me. A girl who was taken from her parents. A girl who will never see peace ever again. Hi, my name is Emma and this is my story.

My name is Emma and I am the main protagonist of Heart of Stone. I was taken away by a barbaric lord named Matthew. He and his crew arrived in my land to find treasures but instead, they found me a girl who was only seeking out water to my papa and mother. His eyes had already sealed my fate when I first saw him. Bargaining my family with a lifetime of food and money just so he could have me. I wanted to help my parents since we were poor. My father agreed and we were married the night before I left. I never saw my parents again.

For years I lived with Matthew, obeying his every command as a wife should. But slowly I realized why he took me. I was a treasure itself. I was born with platinum blonde hair. I guess in his country I was rare. I became their new object to look at. I was not noticed as a normal person. Just the beautiful wife of Matthew. Houk’s Society Episode 1

Welcome to the first ever episode of Houk’s society. Houk’s society is a club for all characters written by myself. Each week I plan on allowing the main character of one of my stories to make an appearance on my blog. They will discuss their backstory without sharing any spoilers. There will be least twenty episodes including some that other characters will interact with each other.

This week to start everything off, met Joyce. The main character of one of my oldest stories. Joyce has bright red hair, green eyes, and freckles. Joyce was just a girl who lived with her parents in the middle of the countryside. Too impatient was she when she wanted to know what she was designed to do in her life. She didn’t want to wait and discover what the Lord wanted her to do. Instead, she disappeared. Dropping out of high school at sixteen, she followed only a phone call to Europe where she met Joseph. Joseph offered a job to be a secretary for his father, Abisha. Little did she know her world would change forever.

This is me, Joyce. I wished I never left home. If I could, I would tell all the emotions I have but that would be spoilers and we wouldn’t want that. The only thing I can tell you is that I live alone with my cat, Sirius. Yes, he is named after Sirius Black from Harry Potter.

If you ever met me, you would never considered being a trustworthy. At least I am fictional which is always a good thing.

Worldbuilding

Sudden you have an idea for a story but you are clueless what do. Honey, let me help you.

First of all, find out what genre you are going to write. Fanasty, Dystopian, Romance, etc. This should be your foundation of worldbuilding. Here is the best definition of popular genres:

Fanasty: mythical creatures, a world based on realistic places, events, or people aka Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings

Dystopian: a society of poverty, oppression, or rebellion against the government aka Hunger Games or Divergent

Romance: The journey of two people fall in love

Science Fiction: an imaginable world with high tech and science, time travel aka The Giver and Doctor Who

Mystery: the process of a crime or question being solved

Thriller: high suspense story where is the story is continuously moving without the ruin of the ending

Horror: a story capacity that causes terror or fear. aka Dracula or Frankenstein

So now you have made a decision on what genre. We need to form a short synopsis. It doesn’t have to be long just that you have an understanding where your story stands.

The first two steps are done now what. So how much do you like lists? Because that is the last step. I decided to create a list so that this post will take thousands of years to read.  I don’t use all of this when I world building but it helps if you hit a curb while writing.

Next week, I will be doing character development. Enjoy!

Bookish/ Writing Q & A

1) Are there any books which have inspired the style or plot of your books?

C.S. Lewis Narnia series, Sir Gawain and The Green Knight by J.R.R. Tolkien, Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Giver by Lois Lowry, The Odessey by Homer, etc.

2) What is your least favorite and/or favorite trope in books (ex. damsel in distress)? And why? The perfect female character. I hate books with that. Seriously, people, we need to write realistic characters, not perfect. A character with flaws or insecurities. The chosen one. Yes, I have written about it. Let’s be fair, we may all have written about it but over time it gets boring.
3) Do you come up with the characters for your story first or the plot? Or both? I usually come up with the plot and the characters will follow. Usually, I have the whole story landed out in my mind. From the beginning to the end.

4) Pick a favorite character from a book you have read and a favorite character from a story you have written. If both of those characters were to face off in an epic duel, who would win and why?
Why?????? Favorite character from a book. Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter.Harry potter 30 day challenge- day 7: Favorite female character- Luna Lovegood. It was hard choosing between her and Ginny, but lets just talk about how awesome Luna is for a second! She's a really loyal freind, she has more bold honesty than any other character in the series, and she was never afraid to be herself! ( plus her hair is SOOOOO pretty) :D

Favorite Character from one of my stories: Daisy from A Prisoner of Scales.

Redheads...

Reasons why I chose them because they are intelligent, they both have magic but in different ways. Luna uses a wand, she is a witch. Daisy is a druid with magical powers and she is twelve years old. They are weird and intelligent.

Honestly, a battle between each other would be really close. It would be hard to see who win. Daisy could since she may have powers even I don’t know about. Luna could because she is awesome when I reading the Harry Potter books. A tie maybe? But to save my character’s ego, I would say Daisy.

5) What is your favorite book/book series?”

My favorite book would be always The Odyssey by Homer. Don’t get me wrong. I could choose any modern book but this classic stole my heart. Favorite book series would be Lord of the Rings come on people. You should know that by now.

And there you have it. Enjoy! We will do another Q&A when I get to 100th blog post.

Thanks for reading!

The Prologue of Lynn

So, I give you the prologue of my newest writing project, Lynn. Enjoy. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

With black long hair and thin almond blue eyes, and a complexion of tanned camel, I sat alone in the shadows. Hoping for something better. Lynn was my name. I had no family to call my own. Society was my wristwatch. I wrote this story not to show my accomplishments or to be famous. I wrote this to show that everyone is broken and ripped by the tide.

It was a shallow day. Clouded by the eternal darkness within. Overcome by the past thoughts of my selfish acts. Acts of wickedness flying back at me. Scars were my only comfort. Reminding me that everything will be ok. I slept once again on the pillar of salt that my ancestors created for themselves.

My rotting body laid waste for every bird to devour. It felt best to die in the darkness than the light. Darkness was the home of my soul. It felt as though I lived there for eternity. I can remember the first day I became part of society. Lost in the light. Persuaded soon by keepers of the gate. I hoped for a better life but I only found regret.

I hoped that being part of this world would make me a better person. Instead I was cursed of my birth, my rights, and my being. I was forced to play the part. Just imagining the part made me sick. I felt out of the place. I was distinguished before becoming my true flame. I was barren before I was fruitful.

I ran for dear life down the maze of confusion. Out of nowhere, men pulled my hair. My own flesh could feel the misery coming. I tried to jerk free but my own determination failed me. They rubbed their hands on my face. They looked at their hands. Their hands were fifthly by the sins of my life. They cursed at me. Cursing me of my existence. Tears fell from my face. I was ashamed. I was bounded by chains of shame. Beaten by the mistakes of the past.

By daybreak, I was tied to a chair. I tried to cry for help but they constrained by mouth with a cloth. My body ached for the grave. They spat at me. Hoping to break the bonds of my rights. They tore my clothing. I felt naked in defeat. I hoped for someone or something to save me but none came.

My own soul hated me. My body began to wither away. My mind became a pit of despair. My thoughts swallowed me up. Falling deeper and deeper into a bottomless pit. Screams of hatred broke my eardrums. My skin became bruised by the drums of false love. I despised the words of love. How could they leave me alone? Not a flicker of light couldn’t save me.

One by one they left me. Shattered by truth and lies. Hopeless and cursed for the days ahead.

A Reminder (A poem of mine)

People call me weird.
People judge

When one shouldn’t judge others.
Like a mannequin on display
I stand there
Waiting, hoping for their approval.
Where there should be none.

Your life should not be surrounded by the world.

Your life is your life.

Given by God.

Don’t wait for someone to let you live.

Live for yourself.

Don’t change your body

So that you are loved by others.

Be yourself.

Rock your style.

You are worthy.

Don’t be afraid of the wolves

Hidden in the crowds.

Be fearless.

Stand tall.

You are worthy.

Thanks for reading. 🙂
